Common Q&A's

What size should I order?
We strongly recommend ordering your typical blazer or suit size. If you are between sizes in the men's sizes (sometimes a 40 and sometimes a 42, for example) order the smaller size. Because we attend numerous medical and dental conferences throughout the U.S., this has been the consistent feedback for men's sizing at each conference. If after reviewing our size chart and reading the above suggestions, you are still on the fence - send us an email to questions@medelita.com with your height, weight, typical suit or blazer size, and the style/length of lab coat you prefer. Your email will be answered by a Medelita Men's staff member with over 10 years of high-end men's retail experience.
What color is "moon"? Is it white?
Yes, moon is our "out of the box" name for white. The exact Pantone® color name is "Bright White."
If I order embroidery, can I still do an exchange or return?
No. Once a garment has been embroidered, it is not returnable. We suggest that if you are on the fence in the least bit (sizing, style preference, etc.) that you order your first lab coat without embroidery. If you decide to keep the non-embroidered, we recommend taking the lab coat to a local embroiderer such as www.embroidme.com. The next time you order from Medelita Men's, you'll know what size to order and can include our high-quality embroidery option with any subsequent orders.
Do your lab coat sizes run true to size?
One of our strongest recommendations is do not order a size up. Our lab coats are designed to be worn over a scrub top and/or professional clothing, and thus the patterns are designed accordingly. First time customers are sometimes tempted to order "up" a size with concerns about comfort and range of motion. That is equally as important to us as it is to you - and thus, adequate range of motion is reflected in all of our patterns.
Do you have a student length or consultation length lab coat?
Yes. The Fleming style is a 30" length (measured from C6/C7 to bottom center hem of coat) falls into the category of consultation or student length coat.
I am over 6'2" and am worried about lab coat sleeve length. What should I do?
Most men of tall stature find our 44" Osler lab coat to be well proportioned to their figure. Those over 6'2" do occasionally opt to have the sleeves lengthened (at a local tailor) approximately 1 inch. If you would like to know a specific sleeve length, please email us at questions@medelita.com and let us know the size you would be ordering.
I have a small frame, and am not sure if the size 36 or 38 is correctly proportioned. What should I do?
Order the 40" Laennec style without embroidery, and if it works - great. If not, we'll help you send it back to us (with a UPS return label) free of charge for a full refund minus the original shipping charges.
My current lab coat cost $42. Why do medelita lab coats cost $88 - $148?
Good question. Our goal was simple . . . to improve EVERYTHING. The durability. The fluid and stain resistant fabric. The buttons. The fit. The comfort. In order to do so, we sought out the absolute best U.S. sewing factories, worked with the most talented pattern makers, and interviewed innumerous performance fabric companies prior to deciding which were most applicable to the medical profession. For example, the "average" lab coat button costs about a penny. But a single Medelita Men's button costs thirty cents. Why? Because our customers deserve it. It shouldn't break. It shouldn't come loose. And it should look masculine and professional. We truly care about the details, and strive to be a company that stands behind their products, and are known for comfort, quality, and fit. A lab coat is worn approximately 2000 - 3000 hours/year, and thus is worn more than any other garment in your wardrobe. Each clinician deserves to wear a well constructed, high quality, tailored lab coat that exudes aptitude and professionalism.
Do you offer custom tailoring, such as sleeve lengthening or hem shortening?
Not at this time. If you require extra fabric for sleeve lengthening, an extra button, etc. - we're happy to accommodate those simple requests. Rumor has it that tailor's have been very pleased with our quality, and thus, find it easy to tailor our garments.
Should I home launder or dry clean my lab coat?
Either is fine. See care instructions for more detailed recommendations.
How long will the lab coat stain treatment last?
As per DuPont® the Advanced Dual Action Teflon® fabric protector is fully effective for 30 industrial washings. This is likely equivalent to 60 home launderings. Other advice - if you choose to dry clean your lab coat, choose a dry cleaner that uses newer, more environmentally friendly solvents. The older chemicals tend to "block" the nanotechnology and thus make the garment less oil repellent. Another interesting fact - the heat of the dryer or the heat of the iron actually helps to "recharge" the stain repel and release technology, making the performance characteristics work better and last longer.
What should I do about pen or ink stains, or other typically stubborn stains (such as iodine) on my lab coat?
Two culprits that are notoriously challenging with a white fabric are pen/ink and iodine. Although the patented stain treatment that we use does help to minimize this problem, it is by no means 100% stain-free for these two items. We strongly recommend a product called Amodex® for ink removal - which is available on our web site under medical accessories.
I want to buy a lab coat as a gift but am unsure about embroidery details and/or sizing.
We recommend one of two options. One, order the lab coat in the recipient's common blazer size (if that is known). If you choose to order the lab coat gift with embroidery, the coat cannot be returned or exchanged. The other option is to purchase a gift certificate, and that way the recipient can choose their style and embroidery preferences easily. If you would like help in making this decision, please call us at 877.987.7979 or send us a detailed email at questions@medelita.com.
Do you ever discount your lab coats or clinician scrubs?
In a nutshell - no - not on the garments themselves. We often run special promotions such as free shipping or free embroidery. Exceptions include large group orders, military orders, as well as established wholesale accounts.
My colleague received a promotion at a conference. Can I have the same promotion?
Send us an email to contact.us@medelita.com and we'd be happy to send you a free ship code. Some of our higher level promotions are for those organizations in which we have defined affiliations, such as the AMWA and the AAPA.
When will the Dri-release® with FreshGuard® scrubs be available for men?
Approximately 2nd quarter of 2010.
What scrub colors will be available first?
Baltic (navy) and pool (similar to ceil blue) and black would be the first available colors. If you have a color suggestion for men's scrubs, email us at suggestions@medelita.com.
Can I buy medelita at any local stores?
Not at this time. We mainly sell via our website www.medelita-mens.com as well as medical conferences throughout the U.S. and (occasionally) Europe. An updated list of medical conferences in which we are scheduled to attend, is listed on our medical conferences page.
