Common ‘Medelita Lab Coat’ Questions

Do I need to iron/press my lab coat?  We utilize Clariant® which helps to greatly minimize wrinkling and shrinkage, but we do not claim to be a wrinkle-free garment.  For an extremely professional look, we do recommend (if you home launder your coat) ironing your Medelita lab coat.  Dry cleaning is a great, easy option, as dry cleaning is tax deductible item as it relates to a uniform expense.

Do I need to dry clean my lab coat?  It is not necessary, only optional.  Depending on personal preference, some Medelita customers opt for dry cleaning.  We recommend ‘no starch’ and utilizing an environmentally friendly cleaner.

Do I need to choose a certain type of dry cleaner? We recommend that you use a cleaner that has switched to environmentally friendly/eco-friendly chemicals, as older solvents tend to ‘block’ the stain resistant features (especially oil repellency) over time, decreasing the effectiveness of the Advanced Dual Action Teflon® performance fabric.

How long will the Advanced Dual Action Teflon® fabric protector last? It has very good performance out to 30 home washes, and benefits up to 50 washes. The nanotechnology that benefits the wearer is ‘recharged’ by heat. So the heat of the dryer or the heat of the iron actually helps to prolong the life of the DuPont repel and release technology.

What about ink and pen marks?  The Teflon fabric protector helps to release pen marks, when laundered or dry cleaned, much better than any other lab coat you’ve worn.  Medelita lab coats are not 100% impermeable to ink or iodine.  We highly recommend Amodex® Ink & Stain remover for ink and iodine, available on our web site.

Does the Advanced Dual Action Teflon® fabric protector prevent stains completely?  Not completely – but it makes a huge difference in the cleanliness, appearance and longevity of your lab coat.  It allows water and oil based spills to be repelled by an invisible molecular barrier around the individual fibers – a nanotechnology.  Liquid spills (including blood) bead up and roll off, and any residue can be easily wiped away.  Ground-in stains are quickly released with laundering or dry cleaning.

If the lab coats are fluid resistant, how do they get clean in the wash?  The agitation from the washing machine, or the pressure of the dry cleaner, pushes the water and detergent into the pores of the fabric – penetrating much deeper into the fibers than non-treated fabric.  This is a special benefit of the nanotechnology, allowing a more thorough clean.  The result is a bright white, professional looking garment.

What happens if I use chlorine bleach on my lab coat?  Two things.  One, the inside colored seam binding will lose its color.  Two, the overall strength of the 100% cotton fabric will weaken over time, as bleach is very harsh to natural cotton fibers.  If you prefer to bleach your lab coat for hygienic purposes, please use non-chlorine bleach.

Do Medelita lab coats shrink?
Third party testing shows shrinkage of 1-3% if home laundered on higher temperatures.  Dry cleaning results in hardly any shrinkage.  The 3% shrinkage is consistent with industrial or home laundering in hot water and drying on a high temperature setting.

Ironing of Medelita scrubs is absolutely not needed – they do not wrinkle easily

Common ‘Medelita Scrub Care’ Questions

What does the scrub fabric feel like?  It is remarkably soft and luxuriously comfortable.  The weight allows for a flattering drape – not too thin and not too thick.  It provides the perfect level of comfort and professionalism.  At first, the fabric makes a slight swooshing sound (from the brushed finish) and this sound disappears after 2-3 washings.

The care instructions say to not use fabric softener.  What happens if I use fabric softener on my scrubs?  Nothing long-term.  Liquid softeners and/or dryer sheets ‘plug’ the moisture wicking functionality of the drirelease®  scrub fabric, which reduces the intended functionality of the garment.

Will they fade?  Amazingly, no.  Medelita scrubs have significantly less fading than any other scrub brand out there.  Because of the 85% virgin polyester in our Medelita scrubs – this special blend protects the scrubs from fading.

Do the scrubs repel fluid and stains, like the Medelita lab coats?  The performance feature is different than that of our lab coats.  Medelita scrubs are made from a custom drirelease with FreshGuard® fabric technology.  The purpose of this environmentally friendly fabric is to wick moisture and prevent odors.  Because of the amount of virgin polyester in Medelita scrubs, they naturally clean very easily and resist stains, but that is not their primary performance feature (like the repel & release technology in Medelita lab coats).

Do they shrink?  Less than 1%.

Do they stain easily?  No.  The inherent properties of the fabric allow for very easy stain removal.  See below for specific pointers on how to remove common stains from Medelita scrubs.
