Now Accepting Nominations for the 2nd Annual $25,000 TheRightFit H.E.R.O. Honorarium

For the second year in a row, Medelita is seeking nominations for TheRightFit – Honoring Excellent Resident Observations (H.E.R.O.) Honorarium. Last year, colleagues, friends, and family of medical residents nationwide assisted us in identifying those who excelled in their fields and demonstrated outstanding leadership in their communities. 10,000 online votes ensured that the public’s voices were heard as we selected the official honoree from among 200 nominations.

Medelita presented $25,000 to pediatric resident, Dr. Kanani Titchen, of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital/Nemours-AI DuPont Hospital for Children. Dr. Titchen is a past Resident Division President of the American Women’s Medical Association. She chose to use a large portion of the honorarium to launch Physicians Against The Trafficking of Humans (PATH), an initiative for which she co-chairs, in an effort to help her colleagues learn how to identify victims of child sex trafficking.

“It is really unusual for residents to be recognized nationally and with a significant honorarium to pursue personal causes and to repay medical school debt,” said Dr. Titchen. “The Medelita H.E.R.O. Honorarium is the first recognition of the intense, unremitting, unforgiving schedule of residents and the amount of work we put in. I'm grateful that someone is seeing our potential and rewarding it. This motivates me to stay true to my passion for social justice and true to my ‘right fit’ for helping children.”

This year, not only can colleagues, friends, and family nominate a resident, who deserves H.E.R.O. recognition, but also, residents can nominate themselves. This is a rare chance to celebrate the accomplishments of a peer and share stories about the important work of future leaders in medicine.

Teflon® Fabric Protector has returned to sponsor the honorarium. Their support and the involvement of the medical community will create another valuable and inspiring conversation about the personal sacrifices and professional commitment of residents that you select for candidacy.

Nominations commence today! Medelita will feature 100 resident semifinalists on the website for peer voting and announce the 2015 H.E.R.O. honoree on May 13th. To nominate a worthy resident, vote, and join the conversation visit: www.medelita.com/therightfit.
