Why did you choose your profession?:
Not only did I pick this career in emergency medicine for the adrenaline rush, but also for the positive impact I can have on a patient's life. Patients come to the ER on some of the worst and most stressful days of their lives. As an ER Nurse Practitioner, it is so rewarding to know it's my job to help them and to try to make their terrible day a little better.
Current Passion Project:
I am the founder of Nurse Practitioners Of Instagram (@NPsOfInsta). I created the account as a place where others NPs, NP students, and anyone working in healthcare can network and encourage one another. I think it is so important for us to celebrate each other accomplishments!
Who was/is your inspiration?
The awesome ER team I work with keeps me inspired! I like to call the emergency department "organized chaos." It can get crazy, hectic, and stressful in just a matter of seconds working in emergency medicine. The way all the doctors, NPs, PAs, and nurses work together in this chaos never ceases to amaze me. The very best memories I have had in my career are when the chaos is gone and we all take a breathe together, smile, and say "that was awesome...we totally just saved a life!".
Fun Fact 1:
I currently live in Charlotte, North Carolina with my husband, son, and mini labradoodle. Time with my little family is my favorite time! And motherhood has been the absolutely best experience of my life!
Fun Fact 2:
I never missed an episode of the TV show "ER" growing up! I really do think this TV show is what sparked my interested in emergency medicine! Haha!
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
I started my career in the emergency department as a ER tech then ER registered nurse and now ER Nurse Practitioner. I am double board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Every shift is completely different then the last in emergency medicine. It is a fast paced environment to work. And you will never ever stop learning in the field of emergency medicine!
