Dr. Maria Mithaiwala is an Emergency Medicine Physician in Dallas, TX. She greatly enjoys her career in medicine but in her free time her biggest passion is travel and photography. She truly loves exploring new places and meeting new people, and is a big proponent of self care and showing people that it is possible to have a great work life balance.
In her own words,
"My favorite thing is being on the front lines of managing medical emergencies. Making decisions, doing procedures and seeing the immediate results. The ability to help someone in their time of need. The biggest challenge for me in my career in medicine was getting over my own fears of being inadequate. Patients and even other coworkers will second guess my intelligence or my ability to care for a patient and do certain procedures because of the way I look. Some people believe I look too young to be a physician. Others don’t believe a Female physician can be just as competent. Breaking down those stereotypes has been one of my greatest passions. I have learned to let my actions speak for me and to build confidence in myself.
I believe the way we dress makes the biggest first impression on people. When I go to work I like to have scrubs and white coats that are well fitted and make me look put together. The way we dress in a professional setting helps patients to take us more seriously and instills confidence in our abilities."
