Why did you choose your profession?:
Emergency medicine is the fastest paced department in the healthcare system. It requires you to not only think in the here and now, but have a strategy for the long term. The emergency department is both the front door and the safety net of the healthcare system. We see everything from simple cuts to patients in their most dire of moments. There's no other place like the emergency department.
Current Passion Project:
I'm a Medical Journalist. I work with ABC's World News Tonight with David Muir, Good Morning America, NBC Network shows, several local stations in Orlando, and have been featured in the Washington Post, with the Associated Press, and others. I'm also currently a writer for HealthLine.com .
Who was/is your inspiration?
Drs. Kristopher Brickman and Stephen Grider. They are upstanding physicians and community members who go beyond the bedside and to the people of the community. Both took me under their wings, were never afraid to give me the truth. They are a large part in my journey to success.
Fun Fact 1:
Writing is a passion, and the art of hand writing letters is still something I still believe in. I send out over 100 written notes each year.
Fun Fact 2:
While I love fashion and believe is classic styles (not the fast fashion stuff) - I think Iris Apfel is the best dressed person in the world today.
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
If you're going to commit to medicine - do it with all of your might. We give up a lot to get to this point in our lives, and it's tough, but hard work pays off. There's nothing easy about the process, but if you're not in it entirely and for the right reasons - you're going to get lost in the process.
