Name: Tori Jaeger, DO

Title: Physician

Location: TX

School/Program: Baylor Scott & White/Texas A&M University

Why did you choose your profession?:
I initially wanted to be a physician after participating in an international mission trip. I wanted to be able to have a skill set that would be useful in any area. I decided gastroenterology was my passion after growing up with a hereditary colon cancer syndrome. So, becoming a gastroenterologist was a perfect fit.

Current Passion Project:
Send Hope Now, an organization caring for HIV/AIDS orphans in India. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network working toward pancreatic cancer research.

Who was/is your inspiration?
My mom instilled the value of goal setting and hard work. She always supported me and believed I could achieve whatever I wanted to. She passed away from pancreatic cancer during my second year of residency.

Fun Fact 1:
I had my daughter a month and a half into my intern year—1300 miles from any friends or family!

Fun Fact 2:
We’re in the middle of adopting our second child from Colombia.

Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
Shadow a physician from the moment they get to work until they leave at the end of the day to get a realistic perception of what life is really like. Ask lots of questions. Work hard. Women—don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t be both mom and doctor!
