Why did you choose your profession?:
I always knew I wanted to be a surgeon. I have a passion for fixing things with my hands, and helping people improve quality of life. Especially as an underrepresented minority, I also want to be a role model for others like me aspiring to do medicine. My work is dedicated to eliminating health disparities and helping provide improved quality of care for all.
Who was/is your inspiration?
My dad! He was a sailor in the Navy for 23 years. He instilled in me my consistent work ethic and has always been my #1 cheerleader.
Fun Fact 1:
I've lived in several countries and states across the world as the child of two Navy parents! I attended 8 schools before ever entering middle school.
Fun Fact 2:
I played competitive golf all my life including Jr PGA all the way into college.
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
Strength grows in the moments when you think you can't keep going, but you continue on anyway. Medicine is a challenging road requiring many sacrifices, but is so incredibly rewarding. Don't let anyone tell you what you cannot do. Make your own goals, then crush them!
