Austin Vaughan, MS-3
Name: Austin Vaughan, MS-3
Title: Medical Student
Location: Kansas City, MO
School/Program: Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences
Currently Wearing: The Men's Ionic Scrub Jacket
Why did you choose your profession?:
The osteopathic medical field best aligned with my “whole-body” approach to medicine while still being able to pursue a career in surgery.
Current Passion Project:
Bonyo’s Kenya Mission: This organization not only helps to provide medical care for an extremely remote village in western Kenya but also supports the local community through educational sponsorship programs. The clinic is a true beacon of hope, located in an area endemic to malaria it provides lifesaving interventions at a fraction of the cost. The organization also covers the cost of school for many of the local children, without which most would be unable to attend even middle or high school.
Who was/is your inspiration?
My mom has always been my biggest inspiration, she is the most driven individual I know and has always supported my goals.
Fun Fact 1:
I create custom pieces of wood artwork/home decor (signs, tables, benches, etc.)
Fun Fact 2:
I’m an avid rock climber
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
Give it your all every step of the way. This is not an easy profession to enter into; it’s time consuming, demanding, draining and a life-long commitment. However, it is also the most rewarding work I could ever imagine. Having the ability to truly impact the lives of others on a daily basis is an absolutely amazing and profound feeling.
