Crystal Maxwell, MD, MBA, FAAFP
Name: Crystal Maxwell, MD, MBA, FAAFP
Title: Physician
Location: Fort Mill, SC
School/Program: University of Tennessee
Currently Wearing: The Rebecca Slim Fit Lab Coat
Why did you choose your profession?:
I chose Family Medicine because I was intrigued and inspired by watching doctors and nurses care for my grandfather who I lost to cancer when I was 14. I wanted to gain the skills to treat people who were sick while also being a supportive ally during a family’s time of need.
Current Passion Project:
I am a survivor of cardiomyopathy and lost my mom to heart disease. These experiences have led me to become a supporter of the American Heart Association and various other opportunities to educate on heart health. I am a coauthor of Women and White Coats 2 which was a passion project as I shared my heart experiences in one of my chapters.
Who was/is your inspiration?
There are many who have inspired me to get to where I am today - my husband, my dad, my brother, my grandmothers, and several mentors and friends but my mom inspired me to give and give even when no one notices or says thank you. She showed me that giving is from the heart. I carry this with how I treat my friends, family, and patients.
Fun Fact 1:
Singing and dancing to 90s music is one of my favorite pastimes.
Fun Fact 2:
I enjoy traveling, preferably somewhere sunny and with a beach.
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
Do it. If it’s in your heart to serve people through medicine, disregard any naysayers. Seek out a mentor, make a plan, and do it.
