Why did you choose your profession?:
I grew up wanting to be a doctor after spending most of my childhood learning about the medical field from my grandma who was a nurse for 40+ years. Dermatology was an interest of mine since I was a teenager, but this was solidified when a close family member was diagnosed with melanoma and successfully treated. In dermatology, I am able to use my visual skills to diagnosis a condition within seconds, which is very gratifying. I enjoy seeing patients of all ages and love being able to perform surgeries, cosmetics, preventative screenings, and treat rashes all within the same day. I wake up everyday feeling very fortunate to be a dermatologist and wouldn't trade it for the world. I enjoy teaching others, which is why I started an instagram account.

Current Passion Project:
Melanoma Know More, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night

Who was/is your inspiration?
My grandmother and my father. My grandmother was a nurse for 40+ years and would read me anatomy books when I was growing up. My father is also a huge inspiration and the reason that I'm in the position I am today. My father was always my biggest fan and believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. I was told by everyone (teachers, counselors, mentors) that becoming a physician was too difficult and that I should lower my goals. My dad pushed me to try. A week before I was accepted into medical school, my dad tragically passed away from lymphoma. I garnered my work ethic and strength from him from there on out. Every time I believed I couldn't do it (like match into a highly competitive field like dermatology), I remembered that he believed in me. I am a successful physician because of his love and support. I continue to live my life everyday in his honor.

Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
Dermatology is an extremely competitive when applying to residency. I recommend making connections early. Start to shadow and find a mentor from day 1 of medical school. I encourage participation in research projections, publications, and case reports. Networking is also important as dermatology is a very small, close knit field. Work harder than everyone around you and never lose focus. If you don't match, try and try again. Take time off if need be and pursue a research fellowship. Most importantly, show others how passionate you are about the field.
