Title: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Location: Philadelphia, PA
School/Program: University of Maryland School of Medicine & University of Minnesota School of Dentistry
Currently Wearing: The Rebecca Slim Fit Lab Coat
Why did you choose your profession?:
As a young child, I was obsessed with superheroes. Who wouldn’t want to have superpowers and help those in need?! I knew I wanted to be a surgeon from a young age. I was the first to grab the first aid kit and bandage up anyone in need. As I explored the various fields in medicine and dentistry, I was always drawn to surgery. I am fascinated by anatomy and the delicate intricacies of the human body. Surgery gives me the tools I need to heal people with my hands, the closest job I could find to being a real-life superhero. OMFS was the perfect hybrid between medicine and dentistry. It helped me attain the skills to be a Cleft and Craniofacial Surgeon.
Current Passion Project:
I frequently volunteer on international mission work.
Who was/is your inspiration?
My father. He moved to the US with the sole desire to improve his career to be able to better provide for himself and his family. He taught me and all my siblings that we could be whatever we want.
Fun Fact 1:
I am a master level SCUBA diver
Fun Fact 2:
I have traveled to all the continents except Antarctica.
Do you have any advice for others interested in entering your field?
Make sure that you are passionate about surgery. You want to feel that you have the privilege to work in the field, not that you HAVE to work.
