Monica Elston, MS, FNP-BC

Monica Elston is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner from Washington, DC where she currently works full-time in a busy, diverse Obstetrics and Gynecology practice. She received her Bachelors of Science from Hampton University and went on to obtain her Masters of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University. Prior to starting her career as an NP, Monica worked as an RN on a Labor and Delivery unit - she considers her years as a Labor and Delivery Nurse to be "the foundation of her career and the best and most exciting years of my life."

When she isn't working, Monica can be found traveling the globe with her husband and friends, enjoying new brunch spots around the city and volunteering in the DC community with her Sorority sisters; the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. In true Maryland fashion, Monica considers a sunny day sitting out on the deck with loved ones eating Maryland blue crabs her perfect day off!

In her own words,

"My passion for promoting health and wellness and educating women on disease prevention has become my life's work. I've known since High School that empowering women to live their best life would mean educating them on how to live their healthiest life, and as an NP I'm able to do just that.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is a specialty that is all about women! Though this is obvious, it is the most important aspect of this specialty. As an NP, I'm able to provide comprehensive, patient-centered, non-judgemental obstetric and gynecologic care to women throughout their pregnancies and their lives. This specialty is the best of all worlds! It may be the only specialty in which providers can use their unique skills and vast knowledge base to diagnose and treat patients and in the next breath be chatting about weekend plans and the patient's new love interest.

I love connecting with my patients while providing high-quality healthcare. My favorite aspect of my job by far includes being able to educate patients about their reproductive health answering all of the questions they've been too scared to ask other providers. Seeing the smile of confidence they have upon leaving the exam room as they say "I'll see you next year!" is the best feeling ever."
